El La Katrina and Macca

GIRL ILLA Tactics is an emerging multi-media platform focused on resilience, strategic planning and sustainable community growth through artistic work and Hip Hop Culture with a sense of humor and an interactive digital space for collaboration. This new platform is the creation of El La Katrina (Katrina Flores) and Bgirl Macca (Macca Malik).

Katrina Brook Flores aka El La Katrina is currently the Program Consultant, Associate Curator and Intern Coordinator for the B-Series at The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago.  Artistically she is a Bgirl, Masters of Ceremony, poet and visual artist and filmmaker. While at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she served as the Arts-In-Education Director for the first Hip Hop Scholarship program in the country called First Wave through the Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives (OMAI), where she crystalized programmatic pillars called the Three A’s: Academics/Arts/Activism.  In addition, Katrina Flores co-created InterCultural Dialogues (ICD), a “For-Students-By-Students” undergraduate course at UW-Madison in the Sociology Department, and Co-Directed Breakin’ the Law: International Festival of Urban Movement (BTL). El La Katrina has partnered with communities that use Hip Hop to transform their lives in the Philippines, China, Cambodia, Bulgaria, South Africa and throughout Central American and the US.

Macca Malik aka Bgirl Macca has worked hard to represent women at the forefront of the culture on a high level through internationally recognized competition. At 5-years-old, Macca’s Mother relocated her family to Germany. Macca gained interest in Hip Hop through her older brother, an MC and organizer of many Hip Hop events in Germany in her early years.  In 2004, she began learning Breaking from Raphael Xavier, one of Philadelphia’s master Breakers.  In 2006, she continued her studies with 360 Flava founder and leader, Brian “B-boy Hannibal” Newby.  Macca has traveled to Germany, Switzerland, England, Bolivia, Canada, France, Puerto Rico and Reunion Island. Macca served as a Hip Hop ambassador to La Paz, Bolivia on a trip organized by the U.S. government. Macca is a proven top female competitor in the Breaking scene winning the Bgirl Battle at Evolution 2011, competing in France at Hip Hopsession, and being selected to represent the U.S. for BBS International Breaking Event 2013. Most recently Macca become the first female to represent the world-renowned Bboyworld team to compete in France at the Breaking World Series in 2014.
